Hi, friend!
I’m Jannell C. Smith.
I’m your candidate for the Virginia Beach City Public School Board District 10.
As a parent of three school-age children in Virginia Beach Public Schools, I understand the barriers to student success and how essential generational diversity is to confronting the current challenges our students and teachers face.
I’m not just asking for your vote, I’m asking for your partnership. Because this is about all of our students, our schools, and our futures.
Meet Jannell
I’m a mother of three, a Navy veteran, and a mental health professional running to represent District 10 of the Virginia Beach School Board.
I understand what it will take to advocate for our children, and as a proud member of a Gold Star Family, I will proudly support the district's many military families and students.

As your School Board Member, I will:
Champion easily accessible, equitable mental health resources in every school — because a child who isn’t well can’t learn.
Fight for teacher pay that lets educators live in the community where they serve, and honors their hard work educating our children.
Advocate for military families and their children with the full weight of personal experience — as a veteran and Gold Star spouse, I know what every military child in Virginia Beach needs to feel fully supported in school.
Build a School Board cohort that reflects the real Virginia Beach — every generation, every neighborhood, and every family that calls it home.
District 10:
The 💜 of Virginia Beach.
District 10 stretches across the heart of Virginia Beach, from Timberlake and Chimney Hill in the north to Landstown and Dam Neck in the south. It's home to thousands of families, hundreds of classrooms, and one of the largest military communities in the entire city.
I've lived here for 18 years. My kids go to school here. I shop at the same stores, sit in the same traffic, and ask the same questions every District 10 parent is asking. This isn't just the district I'm running in. It's home, and it deserves a voice on the school board that is genuinely living it alongside you.
